Last time out, the Bobcats fell to the Black Bears of Maine University by a score of 5-3. Quinnipiac dropped to 4-4 on the season with the loss. The Bobcats come into Sunday’s contest against American on a two game loosing streak.
Three Keys to the Game
- Defense– The Bobcats have let up nine goals in their past two contests, and most of these goals haven’t been the fault of the keepers, Nicole Lewis or Megan Conaboy. Most of the goals given up this year have been goals that the keeper can’t do anything about. The back line for the Bobcats needs to help out their goalies by not allowing so many uncontested shots on the cage.
- Depth and Diversity-The Bobcats have been scoring this season, but most of their goals have come from Jennalise Taylor (six goals) and Jess Rusin (four goals). The opponent can key in on the two big scoring threats for the Bobcats without having to worry much about the other forwards. QU has depth on the front line, and it seems like they are starting to come around. Danielle Allen and Christa Romano both scored their first goals on the season against Maine. Add them with Kristen Engelke, who has two goals this season, the Bobcats offense looks ready to explode.
- Turnovers– Play in the midfield is crucial in any sport and field hockey is no different. Quinnipiac has fallen victim to turning the ball over in the midfield this season. The Bobcats need to focus on controlling the ball for extended periods of time and use short passes to move the ball up field. QU needs to try and cause turnovers, something that Taylor and Ashleigh Allen are specialists at.
