The Quinnipiac volleyball team took on NEC rival Robert Morris Colonials this Sunday at Burt Kahn Court in its second home game of the season.
The Bobcats were defeated in straights sets (25-7, 25-23, 25-14). The loss was the Bobcats fourth straight loss to an NEC opponent, resulting in a 0-4 NEC record and an overall record of 1-12.
The first set for the Bobcats was a shaky one. Miscommunication was their downfall as the Colonials jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.
The teams seven attack errors also contributed to its below average start.
Down by the one set, the Bobcats came out with more energy in the second set. Freshman Chandler Thornton (Arlington, Texas) gave the Bobcats a needed boost smashing four kills, finishing the match with a team-high of seven.
The Bobcats turned up their defensive intensity as well as they held a 16-10 lead mid-way through the set. This wild set featured long rallies and tough points for both teams.
“This is what you look for as a coach. The girls played a good game and they battled every single time. We fought hard, we played hard, and we trusted each other,” said Head Coach Kris Czaplinski.
Unfortunately for the Bobcats, the Colonials would sneak their way back into the set and come away with a two-point set victory.
Heading into the third set, the Bobcats kept their spirits up as they hoped to end their 14-set losing-streak.
After a stalemate start, the Colonials would once again prove their dominance. Sophomore Sydney Sizemore led her team with eight kills.
The star for the Bobcats was sophomore Brittanie Robinson (Fresno, Calif.) who led the team in assists with 18 and digs with nine.
Junior Logan Riker (Bowling Green, Ohio) also added eight digs of her own, pushing her career total to 993. With these digs, she inches closer to the program record of 1,017 set by Kelby Carey last year.
The Bobcats return to the court Saturday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. as they host Sacred Heart.
