Quinnipiac field hockey topped Brown University in a tight 3-2 contest Wednesday afternoon. The victory advances the Bobcats to 6-4 on the year, while Brown drops to 3-5.
Sophomore Danielle Allan (Riverdale, N.J.) scored the first goal of the game for Quinnipiac. The unassisted score is her third of the season.
“I think Danielle is really coming into her own, and I’m really pleased with the way that our sports medicine staff worked with her and got her back,” Head Coach Becca Main said. “She’s at a place where she’s able to play at her peak, and she’s putting the ball in the net, and she’s doing incredibly well.”
After Brown’s Clayton Christus made the equalizing score, Quinnipiac scored the game’s next two goals. Freshman Haley Swartz (Downington, Pa.) put a Jennalise Taylor (Yardley, Pa.) offering past Bear keeper Shannon McSweeney for her first career goal.
“When you see you’re freshmen stepping up, and I thought Haley had just an incredible game today,” Main said. “She played not like a freshman but like a four-year veteran.”
Junior Christa Romano (Madison, N.J.) continued Bobcat scoring in the second half off of a penalty corner. Amanda Danziger (Smithtown, N.Y.) was credited with the assist.
With the two-goal advantage, Main elected to pull senior goaltender Nicole Lewis (East Amherst, N.Y.) for sophomore Megan Conaboy (Clarks Summit, Pa.). Brown took advantage of the goal switch, and came within one after Alexis Miller scored her second of the season. However, the score would remain.
The Bobcats next travel to Harvard on Sep. 30. This serves as the final non-conference game of the season for the Bobcats. With that, Main and her Bobcats know they need to take the downtime to collect their thoughts.
“The bodies need some rest. The minds need a little rest. The team needs to take a moment this week, which we’ve discussed, to really take a break,” Main said.
If the week goes as peacefully as intended, the rest will help the Bobcats as they enter a stretch of Northeast Conference play.
