A Taylor Healey (Milford, Conn.) goal in the 10th minute of the game proved to be decisive for the Quinnipiac Bobcats (6-2-1, 2-0 N.E.C.) in their 1-0 win over the Central Connecticut Blue Devils. (1-8 0-2 N.E.C.)
Healey’s goal, the first of her career, was scored off the Bobcat’s first corner kick of the game.
“The ball came across and with my left foot, which my coach doesn’t think I have a great left foot, I kicked it in,” Healey said when asked about her game-winning goal.
After the Bobcats broke out to an early lead, they were able to stave off a Blue Devil offense that only put three shots on frame throughout the 90-minute contest.
This strong defensive performance allowed senior goalkeeper Jill Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.) to tally her fifth clean sheet of the season.
“I think that the back four gets a lot of the credit,” Head Coach Dave Clarke said referring to his team’s defensive effort. “The way that we are doing things is from the front to the back.”
Despite the Bobcats’ recent two victories, both of which were conference games, Clarke was not impressed with the team’s over-all performance.
“We’ve picked up six points and we haven’t played particularly well in either game,” Clarke confessed. “We did a lot of good things, but there are a lot of things we have to sharpen up.”
Clarke may not have been pleased with his team’s play lately, but he did note that the win put them in great position over the Blue Devils.
“We actually have to drop seven points for them to get ahead of us.”
The Bobcats currently sit at the top of the Northeast Conference with a perfect 2-0 record, as they prepare to take on conference foe LIU Brooklyn (2-7-2 0-1-1 N.E.C.) on Friday at LIU Field.
