Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey is set for its lone exhibition match on Saturday. The Bobcats will welcome PWHL’s Cambridge Jr. Rivulettes to Hamden for a preseason warm up.
Cambridge is 2-0 in the PWHL this season, a league that consistently produces some of the top talent in women’s college hockey. The league is also the former home of five of the six Quinnipiac freshmen. Some of which, head coach Rick Seeley said, are already playing great hockey.
“If we are going to build on what we’ve accomplished the past few years, the freshmen are going to have to play key roles,” Seeley said. “Up front, [Nicole] Brown and [Nicole] Connery are ready to step in and improve on what we had in the past and our three defensemen are all exceptional.”
Now add Seeley’s excitement to what he sees from the freshmen to the improvements from the veterans.
“Every returner looks better than last year,” Seeley said confidently. “They all seem like they matured and they clearly worked out over the summer with a purpose.”
With top talent returning in Nicole Kosta, Kelly Babstock, Breann Frykas, Regan Boulton, Victoria Vigilanti, and Erica Uden Johansson and top talent coming in, this could be a history-making season.
“This is the first year that we can legitimately say to our team that this is a program that is ready to challenge for championships,” Seeley said. “It doesn’t mean that it is going to happen but the opportunity is going to be there from here on in.”
The puck drops at 2 p.m. at the High Point Solutions Arena and you can hear and see all the action on right here on QBSN. Nick Sczerbinski and Brian Farrell will have the call.
