It seems as if junior Kelly Babstock (Mississauga, Ontario) has continued where she left off last season, garnering her first ECAC Player of the Week honors of the 2012-2013 season and for the fifth time in her three years as a Bobcat. It occurred in the first regular season series of the year against the No. 9 ranked Mercyhurst Lakers, and she did it in vintage style.
The six-point weekend performance put her at 100 career points, the first player in Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey history to do so, as well as become the first to score 50 goals for the program in just her third season at Quinnipiac.
Heading into the weekend, Babstock was stuck on 99 career points and 48 career goals. It seemed as if luck was on her side as she scored two goals and assisted on one Friday night. Babstock assisted on a Brittany Lyons (Canton, Mass.) goal, good for her 100th career point. She then scored on a breakaway and tying the game with 17 seconds left in the third period, her 50th career tally. Saturday’s game saw Babstock assist on two goals and score on one.
Babstock has now become the program’s leader in points, assists and goals and shows no signs of slowing down. The Quinnipiac forward is currently sitting in a familiar position atop the ECAC rankings.
The stellar weekend has Babstock sitting atop the ECAC women’s statistics in terms of points (6), goals (3), and plus/minus (4). The Bobcats are back in action this weekend as they take on Maine Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m.
