Farleigh Dickinson University defeated the Quinnipiac women’s volleyball team in three sets saturday afternoon. With the loss, Quinnipiac fell to 1-17 on the season and remains win-less in conference play.
Halfway through the first set the Bobcats had an opportunity to upset the Knights, as the score remained an even 13-13. After tying the score, the Bobcats play turned sloppy, missing spikes, sailing serves, and communicating poorly, which lead to FDU winning the first set 25-18.
The Bobcats came out with intensity and aggression in the second set. They took an early lead; proving they could play with the Knights. Brittanie Robinson (Fresno, CA) assisted nine of QU’s 13 kills. The Bobcats kept the second set close by playing inspired volleyball in front of a home crowd that never wavered in support. Despite QU’s strong efforts however, FDU clawed their way back to win the set 25-23, thanks to outside hitter Meaghan Wheeler’s (Chatsworth, CA) seven kills.
After a grueling loss in the second set, the Bobcats struggled mightily in the third set, falling to the Knights 25-9.
Wheeler tallied 15 kills on the game for FDU, giving her an impressive 390 kills on the year. Quinnipiac freshman outside hitter Chandler Thornton (Arlington, TX) and sophomore outside hitter Tanner Celestin (Norco, CA) recorded a combined 15 kills, tallying 8 and 7 respectively. Robinson assisted on 21 of the 28 kills for the Bobcats.
The story of the game was missed opportunities for the Bobcats. Quinnipiac could not convert consistently on kill attempts, posting a .124 kill percentage compared to the .291 percentage for FDU.
The Bobcats look to rebound against a strong LIU Brooklyn team who sits atop the NEC with an 8-0 conference record.
