The Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey team (6-5-2, 3-3-1 ECAC) will look to rebound quickly as it hosts the St. Lawrence Saints (7-5, 5-3 ECAC) in afternoon action at the High Point Solutions Arena.
Quinnipiac fell 4-1 to the Clarkson Golden Knights Friday night after Jamie Lee Rattray recorded a hat trick in the game. Quinnipiac’s lone goal was scored by junior Erica Uden Johansson (Sundsvall, Sweden) in her first game back after r
epresenting Team Sweden in the Four Nations Cup. It was assisted by sophomore Nicole Kosta (Mississauga, Ontario) and senior Regan Boulton (Brandon, Manitoba).
St. Lawrence picked up a 6-2 rout of the Princeton Tigers in Friday night action, lead by two goals for Jenna Marks. Amanda Boulier also picked up four points in the win, as Carmen MacDonald led the Saints in net with 34 saves on 36 shots.
Keys to Game
Quinnipiac:
- Score early, score often: The Bobcats scored first on Friday night, but saw Clarkson score four unanswered goals en route to a 4-1 loss. Quinnipiac needs to keep up the pressure and not get comfortable with a lead of any size.
- Special Teams: Quinnipiac needs to continue to score on the power play, as they were 1-for-4 against Clarkson. On the season, Quinnipiac has converted on 28.3 percent of power plays while killing 75.7 percent. The special teams has struggled against conference teams, but St. Lawrence has only scored on 16.7 percent of its power plays this season
- Victoria Vigilanti: She hasn’t recorded a shutout yet on the season and has let in a few soft goals throughout the year. On Friday night, she made a few incredible saves before allowing the first goal, and after that she seemed shaken from allowing a goal. The Bobcats need a strong Vigilanti in net to have the best chance at winning.
St. Lawrence:
- Power play: St. Lawrence has only scored 10 power-play goals on the season, good for a 16.7 percent conversion rate. In order to continue success against ECAC opponents, the Saints need to convert power-play goals at a much higher rate.
- Hot streak: The Saints are in the middle of a seven-game winning-streak, after starting off the season 0-5. St. Lawrence won the ECAC last year, and when this team gets hot its hard to stop them.
- Goal scoring: Fifteen goals have been scored in the last three games, good for an average of five goals per game. Abbey McRae has lead the way scoring five goals in the stretch, with Amanda Boulier contributing two goals and seven assists. The offense is heating up, and will be a tough test for the Quinnipiac defense.
