On a day where the Quinnipiac Bobcats honored their three seniors, Ashley Kopacki (Hackettstown, NJ), Taylor Payne (Warwick, NY), and Brittany Garrett (Ossining, NY) they dropped three straight sets to in-state Northeast Conference rival Central Connecticut State University 3-0. In their final regular season game the Bobcats could not keep their offense going totaling only 25 kills in 97 total attempts.
The Bobcats looked strong to start off the match but could not hold on to a lead as the Blue Devils got six quick points to lead 17-7 in the first set. Setter Brittanie Robinson (Fresno, Calif.) had a strong first set with 11 of her 22 total assists in the set.
The Blue Devils took an early lead in the second set and the Bobcats never quite caught up. Central Connecticut grabbed a 19-11 lead and continued to attack the Bobcats defense with six consecutive points to win the set. Tierra Allen (Sumter, SC) contributed with two service aces and a kill in the set.
The Bobcats came out in the third set with a lot more energy, but could not maintain the lead eventually losing 25-14 in the final set. Kopacki had two kills in the set with assists from Robinson.
Chandler Thornton (Arlington, Texas) and Bonnie Conklin (Plano, Texas) both lead the team in kills with six apiece. Robinson contributed 22 assists in the match. In her final home match the senior Kopacki lead the team in digs along with junior libero Logan Riker (Bowling Green, Ohio).
Head coach Kris Czaplinski was happy with the effort his players gave and that they continued to play hard after going down 2-0 in the first two sets.
The Bobcats finish their 2012 season at 2-23 (1-15 NEC).
