Quinnipiac’s (3-5) offense came up short, as it fell to the University of Vermont Catamounts (5-3) 53-46.
The Bobcats, who average nearly 70 points per game, were held to only 46 points today. Bobcat coach Tom Moore acknowledged their poor offensive performance today. He credited the performance to both good defensive play by Vermont and his players’ poor shooting from the field.
It was “a disappointing offensive performance to say the least,” Moore said. “I thought it negated a pretty good defensive performance.”
The Bobcats managed to hold the Catamount to only 53 points. That is nearly 20 points less than the Bobcat’s opponents’ points per game average of 72.
“We were playing terrible offense and great defense,” Moore said.
The team’s offense has been quiet since games against the University of Connecticut and Iona. The team averaged 94 points in those two games.
The lack of offense recently for the Bobcats was concerning to coach Moore. He felt that the recent struggle could affect players on the team.
“Basketball players usually identify whether they’re having a good game or not by how well they’re playing on offense,” Moore said.
Despite the loss, Moore was happy with his team’s determination to keep playing.
“I feel bad for our guys today because the level of commitment to winning was there,” Moore said. “The energy and enthusiasm was there, and all game they played through looking really bad offensively.”
The Bobcats now look ahead to a game against Boston University on Sunday, Dec. 16.
