Ousmane Drame (Boston, Mass.) has earned this week’s QBSN Athlete of the Week honors, after totaling 32 points and recording 30 rebounds in Quinnipiac’s two-game stretch against Northeast Conference foes, Mount St. Mary’s and Wagner.
Drame was one point short of a 20-point and 20-rebound effort last Thursday night at Mount St. Mary’s. The junior forward shot 7-of-11 from the floor and 5-of-8 from the free-throw line for his game-high 19 points.
He grabbed 13 rebounds in the first half, recorded 20 for the game, and finished with nine on the offensive end. It marked the most rebounds in a game since Victor Akinyanju hauled in 21 against the Mount back in 2007 and the first player to record 20 rebounds off-the-bench in the Division I era.
With the great work by Drame, the Bobcats dominated the glass, 50-26, for a plus-24 margin. Quinnipiac ripped down 19 rebounds for 14-second chance points on the offensive end and mustered a 42-30 advantage in the paint.
Last Saturday afternoon at Wagner, Drame notched his second double-double in as many games, with 13 points and 10 rebounds. The 6 foot 9 inch Boston native was 4-of-7 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.
So far this season, Drame is averaging 8.0 point-per-game and 6.4 rebounds-per-game while shooting 50.4 percent from the field. If the Bobcats want to make a late season run, they’ll need Drame to keep playing well down low in the paint.
