After giving up two goals in the first period, the Bobcats were able to notch two third-period goals to tie the Yale Bulldogs, 2-2.

Yale came out to a fast start in the first period, though the on-ice play between the two teams was back and forth. The Bobcats and Bulldogs each exchanged short periods of possession in both of their respective offensive zones.

Midway through the period, Yale’s Lynn Kennedy broke into the zone and put a

shot on Bobcat sophomore goalie Chelsea Laden. She got the puck back on the rebound and was swarmed by Bobcat defenders. Hanna Astrom then got the puck and put a wrist shot past the glove of Laden to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.

Five minutes later, the Bulldogs broke back into the Bobcat zone. After a few shots, Laden appeared to have covered the puck, but it trickled under her and into the net. The goal was awarded to Patricia McGauley.  The period ended with the Bobcats leading in shots, 12-5, but down in goals, 2-0.

The second period brought a more urgent Bobcat squad as they dominated more of the possession. Head coach Rick Seeley pulled Chelsea Laden and replaced her with Victoria Vigilanti.

The Bobcats finally broke the Bulldogs and goaltender Jaimie Leonoff in the third period.

Erica Uden-Johansson picked up the rebound and sent a wrist shot to the back of the net to cut the Bobcat deficit in half, 2-1.

After that, the Bobcats got a few more scoring chances as well as the Bulldogs, but the two teams could not get a goal.

Seeley pulled Vigilanti in the final minute, and the Bobcats held possession in the Bulldogs’ zone. After a few shots, another one from the point and then one from the slot, a shot from Kelly Babstock was deflected by a few players and past the desperate try of Leonoff to tie the game, 2-2. Babstock would be credited with the goal.

When asked how he thought his team played, Seeley bluntly said, “horrendous.”

The Bobcats get a win and a tie this weekend and the Bulldogs split their weekend with a loss and a win. Up next for Quinnipiac is Colgate and Cornell on Feb. 8 and 9, which will be their final two home games of the season. Yale will travel to Harvard and Dartmouth the same weekend.
