The University of Oregon (4-0) remains the lone undefeated team in the National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association with a 273.475-260.215 victory over the Bobcats (2-2). The meet was the first Quinnipiac’s acrobatics and tumbling team hosted of the season.
The Ducks took the first two events, winning the compulsory and acro rounds by a score of 37.60-33.65 and 27.85-25.75 respectively.
The Bobcats came back at the end of the first half. With emotionally charged performances from its flyers, Quinnipiac narrowly took the Pyramid Event 29.2-28.95.
Assistant coach Erin Trotman made note that one of the deterring factors for the Bobcats in the Compulsory Event was the Pyramid Round, the only event that Quinnipiac would later take.
“We had a little bit of a fall. We didn’t really get to complete our pyramid but that was the third thing going into that meet, so from that pyramid on for the rest of the meet, they completely let it go,” Trotman said. “That’s what we tell them all the time. If they make a mistake at practice or if they make a mistake in a meet, they need to learn how to let it go.“
The Pyramid Event was the only event Quinnipiac took in the meet.
The Ducks led by a score of 94.40-88.60 going into the half. They went on to sweep the second half of events, including a 95-90.09 win of the final event – the Team Routine.
The fifth heat of the Tumbling Event saw a shining moment for Quinnipiac as sophomore base Jenna Quenneville (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) outscored Oregon’s Tara Lubert, 9.53-9.45.
The Bobcats next host Fairmont State at the T.D. Bank Sports Center on April 6 at 1 p.m.
