At the beginning of the season, Coach Danie Caro said the team was going to focus on mixing in multiple goal scorers. The Bobcats had their most balanced and prolific attacks of the season, defeating the LIU-Brooklyn Blackbirds 20-11.
Nine different Bobcats found the back of the cage, and 11 different Bobcats registered a point, as Quinnipiac improved to 4-7 overall and pushed their in-conference record to 2-2, while the Blackbirds remain winless on the season, falling to 0-12 and 0-5 in-conference.
Sarah Allen (Glastonbury, Conn.) led the Bobcats with nine points on the afternoon, scoring a game high four goals, and assisting on five other Quinnipiac goals, bringing her team leading point total to 50.
“It’s not necessarily just me, it’s my team,” Allen said. “If someone is open its because they made themselves open. I just try and look for them.”
The Bobcats’ offense was firing on all cylinders, working the ball around the perimeter, setting up behind the net, and hitting the streaking attackers for point blank shots.
Kyra Ochwat (Farmingdale, N.Y.) continued her stellar sophomore season, adding four goals and two assists, bringing her season point total to 41.
“It’s all about working hard and working with the defense and what your teammates are giving you,” Ochwat said. “Today was a good day for me, but it wouldn’t have happened without my teammates.”
Quinnipiac controlled the turnovers and groundballs, leading to an impressive transition game in which the Bobcats scored seven goals.
The goalie tandem of Samantha Tilts (Port Washington, N.Y.) and Jillian Beucler (Andover, Mass.) stood strong, combining for 14 saves on 25 total shots.
The Bobcats will return to action on Sunday, April 7, at 1 p.m., when the Bobcats play host to the Wagner Seahawks.
“With Wagner, its not going to be an easy game, and we can’t look pass it,” Ochwat said. “Every game needs to be a win for us if we want to make the playoffs.”
