The Quinnipiac men’s baseball team is looking to end an eight-game slide against the University of Hartford.
Last time out, the Bobcats traveled to Bryant for a day-night double header on Sunday, April 14. They dropped both games, 4-0 and 10-5 respectively. Both games were scheduled for seven innings, but the night game took nine innings to decide.
The Bobcats have been outscored 68-21 during their eight-game winless-streak. With a record of 10-20 overall, the Bobcats take on a 10-21 University of Hartford team, which is coming off a tough loss at Stony Brook, losing 5-4 on a walk-off RBI single in the 11th inning by Stony Brook’s Joshua Mason.
Keys to the Game:
QU: The Bobcats need to start hitting early and often. They are getting decent outings from the pitchers, and it’s up to the batters to support them. Don’t try to do too much. Just put the ball in play and let the little things determine the eventual winner.
The defense also needs to tighten up. Many errors have proved costly in past games. The Bobcat pitchers have had trouble ending an inning with two outs and an error being made by a fielder, keeping the inning alive and creating chances for the opposition.
Hartford: The Hawks are coming off a tough, extra-inning loss. Quinnipiac is winless in their last eight games. This is a perfect opportunity to rebound quickly from that tough loss and take advantage of a struggling Bobcat squad.
As other teams have done, the Hawks need to jump on the Quinnipiac pitcher early and take advantage of every opportunity they get to put the game out of reach. Also, testing the Bobcat defense can be an advantage if the Bobcats are not prepared for bunts and other tests from the Hawks causing them to make an error or two.
