The Quinnipiac Bobcats (9-11) baseball team will host the Dartmouth Big Green (14-3) in QU’s home opener on Wednesday at Quinnipiac Baseball Field in Hamden, Conn.
In their last outing, the Bobcats lost to the University of Connecticut by a score of 4-2 at J.O. Christian Field. The game was delayed because of rain, which turned into snow. The game was eventually called due to darkness in the bottom of the seventh. Freshmen Kevin Sustad (Merrick, N.Y.) started the game for the Bobcats. But Senior Kevin Castodio (Pawcatuck, Conn.) was credited with the loss. Sustad pitched one inning, and did not give up any hits or runs to the Huskies. While Castodio went 1 2/3 innings, giving up two runs on three hits, struck out one and walked one batter.
Dartmouth is coming off a doubleheader sweep beating the Columbia Lions, 3-2 in the first game and 7-4 in the second game. The games were played on Easter Sunday at Columbia. Most of Dartmouth’s runs in the first game came courtesy of homeruns. Dartmouth junior’s Dustin Selzer and Jeff Keller; both connected to give the Big Green the upper hand. In the second game if its doubleheader, Dartmouth scored twice in the first inning, and then five runs in the third. Dartmouth’s pitching and defense did the rest to earn the sweep for the Big Green.
The Bobcats will have their work cut out for them as they are playing below .500 baseball. Dartmouth is coming out of a competitive Ivy League Conference as four Big Green players have earned Ivy League Player of the Week honors throughout this season. First pitch between Dartmouth and Quinnipiac is scheduled for 3 p.m.
