The women’s soccer team lost their third game straight in a match against Brown. The Bobcats let an early Brown goal go unanswered in the 1-0 loss. Their record drops to 0-3 and Brown picks up the win in their first game of the season.

Brown kick-started the action in the first half with the lone goal 13 minutes in. Chloe Cross sailed a cross over to Mika Siegelman, who shot once and was blocked by goalkeeper Natalia Grodski (Bartlett, Ill.). Siegelman caught her own rebound and sent it past Grodksi to get Brown on the board.

Quinnipiac looked sluggish on the field trying to keep up with Brown. Up until the last five minutes of the half they failed to even make a run at the goal. However in those final minutes the Bobcats appeared to get a spurt of energy.

A beautifully aimed kick in by Kelly Caruso (Rocky Hill, Conn.) put the ball right in front of the goal. After a collision of players knocked the ball it popped out to Shannon Larkin (Burlington, Conn). Larkin took an open shot, but was denied by Brown keeper Amber Bledsoe.

The half ended without a responding goal from Quinnipiac.

The Bobcats showed a significant increase in hustle during the second half of the game. They fought for the ball and made several runs for the goal, but without success.

“We had the chances then and we didn’t take them. It would have been interesting to see had one of those chances gone in,” head coach Dave Clarke said. “You get one-one and you change the whole mentality.”

Their best opportunity came in the form of a penalty kick early in the half. Following a foul by Brown, Aine Mckeever (Derry City, Ireland) stepped up in an attempt to tie the match. McKeever sent the ball towards the net, but it was tipped and redirected. The score would remain 1-0 in favor of Brown.

Grodski improved from the past two games where she gave up multiple goals and made five saves in the loss today. This is her first year as the starting goalkeeper for Quinnipiac.

“She’s a little bit hesitant with some of the goals she gave up, but she’ll learn,” Clarke said.

The Bobcats look to improve their record this Sunday, Sept. 8. They take to the Quinnipiac field once again to face Holy Cross at 1 p.m. Holy Cross is also 0-3 for the season. Both teams will be looking to capture their first win.
