It took 110 minutes for the Quinnipiac Bobcats and the Army Black Knights to finish out their game, playing to a 0-0 tie. The Bobcats move to 1-2-3 on the season while Army remains undefeated, going to 5-0-1.
“Today proves we can play with anyone,” head coach Eric Da Costa said. “These guys came in undefeated and they left here undefeated. It’s a team that knows how to grind it out and find ways to win. Today, they couldn’t find a way to win. For us, that’s a major positive. We didn’t play our best, but we’re walking away with a clean sheet and a draw.”
The Bobcats played their best soccer in overtime, but couldn’t convert on their chances. James Doig (Liverpool, England) had three scoring chances in overtime, but was turned away by Army’s goalkeeper, Winston Boldt.
Quinnipiac’s goalkeeper, Borja Angoitia (Bibao, Spain), was as impressive as Boldt. The junior goalkeeper turned away all ten shots that the Black Knights sent on target, as he collected his second straight shutout.
Angoitia has allowed one goal in the last three games, and has a not allowed a goal in the last 207 minutes he has played.
“It’s about getting into a rhythm,” Angoitia said. “Once you keep a clean sheet, it’s easier to keep a second one, so hopefully we can keep that going.”
The Bobcats end their four-game home stand on Tuesday when they host the Hartford Hawks. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
