Freshman Sam Anas, honored as this week’s Athlete of the Week, is turning heads whenever he laces up his skates.
The Potomac, Md., native has undressed his opponents on the ice as a power forward for the men’s ice hockey team by tallying five goals in three games, which also earned him the title of ECAC Rookie of the Week.
His goals, which included two on the power play and two game-winners, gave the 20-year-old a +3 for the week, according to the ECAC league office.
Anas is still a free-agent but was “a non-roster invitee to the Capitals’ annual midsummer prospect camp,” as reported by the Washington Post.
While playing for the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL, Anas recorded 97 points in two seasons and was also featured on SportsCenter’s Top 10 highlight reel for a shootout goal against the Muskegon Lumberjacks.
Anas will join his teammates Friday and Saturday for a weekend on the road to face ECAC rivals Colgate and Cornell.
