On a day where the seniors of the Quinnipiac rugby team were honored before the game, it was sophomore Natalie Kosko (Sebastian, Fla.) who dominated. Kosko finished the game with a career high six trys as the Quinnipiac Bobcats (8-2, 4-2 Northeast) cruised to a 98-7 victory over the Northeastern Lady Maddogs. (2-3 Northeast)
After starting conference play 0-2, the Bobcats have won their last four conference matchups and are getting into a groove as they prepare for the Northeast Conference playoffs.
“The last couple of games, we’ve really played like a team,” Kosko said. “The freshman feel like family now and everything is coming together, and I think a championship will be real awesome.”
After commanding the play in the first half, leading to a 39-0 halftime score, the Bobcats found even more offensive power in the second half scoring nine trys, along with seven conversions in the second half alone.
One player who shined in the second half was junior Elisa Cuellar, (Palm Bay Fla.) as she scored both of her trys and assisted on Tayler Schussler’s (Westminster, Md.) late-game try.
Even though the Bobcats dictated play Saturday and appear to be playing their best rugby of the season, coach Becky Carlson still sees improvements that can be made as the season winds down.
“This week we’re going to be hitting the rucking hard in terms of possession,” Carlson said. “It’s going to much more imperative that we regain and keep that possession during the West Chester game.”
The Bobcats head to West Chester on Saturday, Nov. 2 to play the Golden Rams in the last game of the regular season.
