Despite a strong effort by the Quinnipiac Bobcats, they were simply no match for the Marist Red Foxes.
The Bobcats fell in three straight sets to the Red Foxes Wednesday night. It was the Bobcats’ second loss to the Red Foxes of the season, as they were outscored 75-53 overall in the game, with 24 Marist points coming on Quinnipiac errors.
The Red Foxes jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the first set and would not relinquish the lead at any point for the rest of the set.
The Bobcats responded in the middle of the set by scoring five unanswered points to draw closer to 15-12. Quinnipiac played it close until Marist scored the last three points of the set, which ended on a Lexi Millington service ace.
In the middle of the second set the Bobcats came as close as 13-11 to the Red Foxes. The Red Foxes pulled away, however, scoring three unanswered points again to close out the set.
Marist jumped out to a big lead in the third set, scoring 11 unanswered points to get up to 13-3, before a Becca Jones service error broke the streak. Despite breaking the streak, the Bobcats were not able to threaten the Red Foxes’ lead.
The Bobcats pulled within five points of the Red Foxes at the end of the third set, but the Red Foxes stopped the Bobcats’ comeback on a service error by Tanner Celestin.
For the Bobcats, it was the 10th loss in the conference, and they fell to 4-20 overall, 2-9 in the MAAC. The team will play the Rider Broncs on Saturday, Oct. 5. The Bobcats beat the Broncs 3-1 the last time they played earlier in the year.
