Junior goalkeeper Borja Angoitia (Bilbao, Spain) earned this week’s Athlete of the Week honors after leading the men’s soccer team to win its first MAAC Championship title and secure its first Division I NCAA Tournament berth.
Angoitia was named the 2013 MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year earlier in the season. He then earned the title of MAAC Championship Most Valuable Player after Quinnipiac’s win against Monmouth in the MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship.
He made five saves against Monmouth in the championship game and six against Iona during semifinals, only allowing one goal in both games. With the win against Monmouth, Angoitia not only earned his 10th shutout of the season, but also broke the Quinnipiac program record for most shutouts in a single-season.
Angoitia finished the season second in the conference for goals-against average (0.70) and save percentage (0.843).
