The No. 5/6 Quinnipiac Bobcats host the St. Lawrence Saints Friday afternoon in a rematch of the thrilling three-game series in the ECAC Quarterfinals last March 1-3. Quinnipiac (10-1-3, 3-1-2, ECAC) is riding a seven-game unbeaten streak while St. Lawrence (5-7-0, 4-2-0 ECAC) has won three of its last four games since starting the season 2-6.
Keys for Quinnipiac:
- Quality shots are one key for the Bobcats on Friday. Last weekend against Boston College and New Hampshire, they came away with two victories but did not get great looks on net. The Bobcats need to spread out and use good passing to open up shooting lanes to fire shots on Carmen MacDonald, who has a goals against average of 2.13.
- The Bobcats also need to watch the play at the blue line for the Saints. Dayle Wilkinson and Mel Desrochers each have eight assists on the season which they are tied for the team lead. If the Bobcats give too much space, they will either have enough room for an easy pass or an easy shot and will be able to take full advantage of the opportunity.
Keys for St. Lawrence:
- St. Lawrence needs to put pucks on net and make Chelsea Laden work. Laden stopped 29 of 32 stops last weekend against Boston College and New Hampshire, and has a goals against average of just 0.95 on the season. Senior Rylee Smith has five goals so far and first years Alex Moore and Brooke Webster each have four to lead the offense of the Saints, so they need to get as many shots as possible to test Laden who is one of the top goaltenders in the country right now.
- Competing is going to be the ultimate key for the Saints. So far this season, they are 0-6 when facing teams in the top 10 in the country. Although it is early in the season, these two teams are tied with Princeton for third in the conference with eight points, so a win against the nationally-ranked Bobcats could prove huge later in the season.
