The No. 5/6 Quinnipiac Bobcats’ eight game unbeaten streak came to an end with a 3-0 loss to the No. 8 Clarkson Golden Knights. The Bobcats fall to 10-2-4 and 3-2-4 in the ECAC, while the Golden Knights improve to 12-3-2 and 5-2-1 in the ECAC.
Erica Howe picked up her nation’s-best seventh shutout on the season, as Jamie Lee Rattray led the offensive charge with two goals to bring her weekend point total up to seven.
The Bobcats outshot the Golden Knights 12-5 in the first period, but Rattray put Clarkson on the board in the first with her sixth goal of the year. Vanessa Gagnon fed Rattray in the slot and she put a wrist shot over Chelsea Laden’s (Lakeville, Minn.) right pad.
Rattray picked up a power play goal just over a minute into the second period after Cydney Roesler (Stittsville, Ontario) took a hooking penalty at the end of the first period. The Clarkson senior skated the puck into the zone on the near side, beat the Quinnipiac defense, and pushed the puck past Laden for her second goal of the game.
The Bobcats caught a break after Morgan Frtiz-Ward (Mason City, Iowa) took a body checking penalty. Rattray appeared to have scored her third goal for the hat trick, but the goal was waived off because Shannon MacAulay took a cross-checking penalty.
Clarkson added another power play goal late in the third period, as Erin Ambrose scored her ninth goal of the season. Ambrose took the shot from the point and beat a screened Laden.
Quinnipiac put 23 shots on Howe, but Clarkson’s defense blocked 19 shots to help its goalie pick up the victory.
The Bobcats return to action on Tuesday when they travel down to Hobey Baker Memorial Rink to take on Princeton.
