The Quinnipiac volleyball team has had its share of challenges during the past month, but last weekend they overcame those challenges and won in dramatic fashion against Saint Peter’s. Down two sets to none, the Bobcats mounted a furious comeback and won the match in five sets. Head coach Kristopher Czaplinski likes the way his team is playing as they come down the home stretch of the season.
“I think we broke through during the Saint Peters game,” Czaplinski said. “The first two games were the same things we’ve been dealing with, but then something just hit. I had never seen them play like that the whole year.”
The team has seen improved play without freshman setter Emma Ogden, who is out with an injury, but in her absence Brittany Robinson and others have stepped in and filled her role. Czaplinski thinks his young squad is finally getting the right mindset to compete in the MAAC.
“I have been waiting for it to click all year and it did,” Czaplinski said. “They just weren’t going to accept losing no matter what and whoever we played we could off come out on top.”
The team will honor seniors Logan Riker and Bonnie Conklin during Senior Day on Sunday. While these two seniors have seen the low points of the program, Czaplinski is thankful they have been a part of it.
“Bonnie and Logan have been huge for us, huge for this whole program, just making sure year after year the girls come in there, taking care of them, being the mother for them,” Czaplinski said before this weekend. “They have just done a terrific job, so it would be no better way to honor them than to get two wins.”
The team lost in straight sets to Iona on Saturday, but take on MAAC leader Manhattan on Sunday.
