The Quinnipiac Bobcats (3-4) faced the Saint Joseph’s Hawks (6-1) this Sunday at the TD Bank Sports Center for their fourth in-season game. The Hawks defeated the Bobcats in a hard-fought match, 84-69.
The Bobcats left the first half in the lead at 42-31. Quinnipiac took over the scoreboard with eight minutes left, leading the game 20-19. The first foul shot was taken with only 3:10 left on the clock by Quinnipiac’s Brittany McQuain (Independence, Mo.) who led the scoring, with 13 points.
Gillian Abshire (Washington DC) was also an asset to the team with four points and six assists. Erin Shield of Saint Joseph’s led her team with eight points and three assists along with Natasha Cloud who totaled five points and seven assists.
The Hawks came out strong in the second half as Natasha Cloud scored the first four points in the first minute. They took a three-point lead with 16:00 remaining.
Ize Gotfrida, Erin Shields, and Sarah Fairbanks led their team with a total of 56 points. McQuian, Jasmine Martin (Sicklerville, N.J.) and Maria Napolitano (Cincinnati, Ohio) were the leading scorers for the Bobcats with a total of 43 points.
The team is very flexible, does what head coach Tricia Fabbri tells them to do and adjusts accordingly, McQuain said.
McQuain added that the Bobcats need to get refocused for their next few games.
Quinnipiac trailed behind and left the score at 84-69, giving the Hawks their sixth win of the season. Fabbri said the Bobcats fell apart in the second half.
“We lost our discipline as things were coming apart at the seams,” Fabbri said.
She hopes that a day off will benefit her players.
