Junior forward Ousmane Drame (Boston, Mass.) earned Athlete of the Break honors after leading the Bobcats to a 6-3 record (5-1 MAAC) over the winter break. Drame was also recently named the MAAC and College Sports Madness Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his performances in the Bobcats’ wins over Monmouth and Niagara.
Drame collected his 15th career double-double with 15 points and 21 rebounds against Monmouth on Jan. 16, and added a school-record seven blocks. The Bobcats forward also corralled 20 rebounds in a game for the second time in his career and became the 15th player in MAAC history, and the ninth since 2000, to record 20 rebounds in a game.
He also set a new Quinnipiac Division I program record with his seven blocks against the Hawks, breaking his own record that he had done twice before. With that performance, Drame became the seventh player in Quinnipiac history to record 100 blocks in a career and became the third player during the Division I era. He has 106 career blocks, which has him ranked second among Division I players to ever play at Quinnipiac. With his next block he will match CJ Vick’s DI record (107).
The junior recorded his 16th career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Niagara. He added three more blocks to his total this year, and went 8-of-9 from the charity stripe in the double-digit win over the Purple Eagles.
Despite losing to Saint Peter’s on Jan. 12, Drame was a bright spot for the Bobcats, finishing the game with 17 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks. Drame also put together strong performances in Quinnipiac’s earlier wins over Monmouth, Iona and Manhattan, totaling 27 points, 34 rebounds and seven blocks during the break.
Drame is fourth on the team in scoring (12.6) and second on the team in rebounding (9.8) this season.
