Honors for this week’s Athlete of the Week goes to Zaid Hearst (Bethesda, Md.). The junior guard scored 25 points in a key road win for the men’s basketball team over Manhattan on Sunday, Jan. 26. The win improves the Bobcats’ record to 7-3 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play and 12-7 overall.
Hearst also added 10 rebounds and was a very efficient 11-for-12 from the charity stripe in the 90-86 overtime victory over Manhattan College. With the win, the Bobcats are 3-1 against Manhattan and Iona, the top two teams in MAAC preseason standings. In those four games, Hearst averaged 19.3 points per game.
He has been an integral piece to the Bobcats’ recent success. Quinnipiac is 7-1 at home this season, including 5-1 in MAAC play. Hearst is second on the team in points per game with 15.3 in conference games, and with 17.3 points per game at the TD Bank Sports Center.
Hearst and the Bobcats return to Lender Court on Thursday, Jan. 30 as they host the No. 1 Griffs of Canisius College at 7:30 p.m.
