Zaid Hearst scored 58 points in two games this past week, netted his career high against the best team in the conference (Canisus), and was named College Sports Madness MAAC Player of the Week. So it was fairly obvious that the junior guard from Bethesda, Md. was going to win QBSN’s Athlete of the Week.
Hearst dropped 33 points in the Bobcats loss to Canisus on Thursday night at the TD Bank Sports Center, the most by a Bobcat since James Johnson scored 38 against Robert Morris on Jan. 27, 2011. He was 11-of-18 from the field and 9-of-11 from the free throw line. It wasn’t just his scoring that night as he also notched six rebounds and four assists.
On Saturday, Hearst scored 25 points in a 103-95 overtime win against the Siena Saints. He also grabbed eight boards and helped spark the Bobcats come from behind victory. Down 80-71 with just over four minutes to play, Hearst helped spark a 14-5 run to tie the game and force overtime. In the overtime, Hearst made three of his 13 free throws on the afternoon, and helped get the Bobcats their eighth victory in their first season as participants in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
The Bobcats return to action Saturday afternoon versus the Rider Broncs, who are currently tied for third with the Bobcats in the MAAC.
