Sydney Rossman and Ashley Winslow combined for a 5-0 win for Quinnipiac (18-5-9, 9-4-7 ECAC) over Brown University (4-18-5, 3-14-3 ECAC) Saturday at High Point Solutions Arena. The victory broke the four-game winless streak the team had.

Head coach Rick Seeley noted the improvements his team made.

“I thought it really was a lot better out there today,” he said. “I thought our focus was on details. We play defense, we score goals. I thought it was a pretty complete effort tonight.”

Senior Kelly Babstock put the first goal on the board for the Bobcats. Midway through the first period, she scored on the rebound of her first shot while falling over. The second goal came from Meghan Turner in the slot off of a feed through the crease from captain Amanda Colin.

In the middle period, freshman goalie Sydney Rossman stood tall in her fourth start of the season. She remained unfazed though she only faced 18 shots the entire game.

“It’s definitely a bit more difficult, but I think for me it’s important to focus on the play even if it’s not in our end,” Rossman said. “It helps me to keep my focus when the puck does come down into our end.”

Quinnipiac would score two more in the third period. Center Morgan Fritz-Ward scored her second of the night, and right wing Emma Woods closed out the scoring with two minutes to play. The biggest moment of the period was Ashley Winslow entering the net with three and a half minutes to play. For the senior, it was the first game she played in.

“I felt really good knowing my whole team was behind me, they were pulling for me,” Winslow said, smiling. “I think it kind of helped. It made four years worth it.”

The Bobcats’ regular season ends on the road at Cornell and Colgate on Feb. 21 and Feb. 22, respectively. The teams are both ahead of Quinnipiac in the ECAC standings.
