Nine and counting. That’s the number of straight sets the Quinnipiac Women’s Volleyball team has dropped in the last 3 games; the latest coming Wednesday night against the UMass-Lowell Riverhawks in the Bobcats home opener. After rallying to win their season opener 3-2 over Lafayette, the Bobcats are on a 3 game slide, losing each contest 3-0.
The one bright spot of the night for the Bobcats was the impressive performances by their freshmen. Sierra Dawson had 18 assists and 13 digs, while Jamie Termotto led the Bobcats with six kills. Cheyenne Orsi had a game high 5 blocks for the Bobcats.
After dropping the first two sets 25-17, the Bobcats battled strong in the third set. The Bobcats was hanging with the Riverhawks, down 17-16 behind a loud crowd at Burt Khan Court. But UMass-Lowell ended the game on an 8-2 scoring run to take the third and final set, 25-19. It was the Riverhawks first win of the season.
With the loss Quinnipiac falls to 1-3 on the year, while the Riverhawks ended their 4 game losing streak to improve to 1-4.
The next challenge for the Bobcats takes place down in Baltimore in the Greyhound Classic. The Bobcats will take on Loyola on Friday at 7:00 p.m., and St. Francis of Pennsylvania and Dartmouth on Saturday.
