According to Vinny Simone of NYC Buckets, sophomore forward A.J. Sumbry has been granted his release and will transfer. For the second time in just a week, a player from the Quinnipiac men’s basketball team has been granted their release from the program.
Sumbry got off to a hot start in his collegiate career notching a career high 10 points in just 17 minutes of play in his first game as a Bobcat in last season’s Connecticut 6 Classic against Hartford. Sumbry played in 29 games last season as a freshman, finishing the year averaging 1.4 points to go along with 1.3 rebounds per game.
Sumbry was sidelined for all of his sophomore campaign due to a shoulder injury.
With the roster constituted as it is right now, head coach Tom Moore only has four players on his roster that will be upperclassmen next season. Those players are juniors James Ford Jr., Samir Kalil, and Giovanni McLean, as well as sophomore Alain Chigha. With a very young roster heading in to next season the Bobcats will need to rely heavily on the incoming recruiting class to fill the voids left by the eight players leaving due to graduation or that are transferring.
Last week, sophomore point guard Kasim Chandler was granted his release from the program as well. Sumbry now becomes the 14th player to transfer from Quinnipiac since the 2010-11 season.
