Quinnipiac University has announced women’s ice hockey head coach Rick Seeley is resigning after serving seven seasons behind the bench. This announcement came the day after Q30 Sports reported the school was investigating potentially abusive behavior. Associate Head Coach Cassandra Turner has been named interim head coach.
“I would like to thank Rick Seeley for his service to Quinnipiac University and everything that he has done to elevate our women’s ice hockey program,” Director of Athletics & Recreation Jack McDonald said. “We wish Rick and his family the best of luck.”
Last month, Seeley led the No. 3 Bobcats to their first NCAA Tournament appearance, where the Harvard Crimson knocked out the Bobcats in the Quarterfinal, ending their best season at 26-9-3.
Seeley took over as head coach of the Bobcats on April 8, 2008, and was named the Coach of the Year in his second season at the helm of the Bobcats by the ECAC and the New England Hockey Writers’ Association. This came after he led his team to its first ECAC playoff appearance as well as the team’s first double-digit win season.
Before his time at Quinnipiac, Seeley was the first head coach of the Clarkson University Golden Knights women’s ice hockey team for six seasons, leading them to the ECAC playoffs in their first four seasons as well as finishing at the No. 8 and 9 positions in the two national polls in his final season.
