After a record-setting 2014-15 season that was capped off by the team’s first NCAA Tournament appearance, the Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey team was picked to finish third in the preseason ECAC Hockey Coaches’ Poll, behind 2014 national champion Clarkson, and 2015 national runner-up, Harvard. The complete order of the poll was: Harvard, Clarkson, Quinnipiac, Cornell, St. Lawrence, Princeton, Dartmouth, Yale, Colgate, RPI, Union, and Brown.
The preseason coaches’ All-League team consists of five players—all from either Clarkson or Harvard. Harvard goaltender Emerance Maschmeyer was named to the team alongside her Crimson teammates, defender Michelle Picard, and forwards Miye D’Oench and Mary Parker. The other two players chosen were Clarkson forward Cayley Mercer, and defender Erin Ambrose.
After a long summer, the start of the 2015-16 campaign is right around the corner. Quinnipiac’s head coach, Cassandra Turner, spoke on a teleconference Tuesday morning about the upcoming season.
“For us it’s a pretty exciting time,” she said. “Our group yet again is coming off our best season in our program’s history with 26 wins last year and making it to the NCAA Tournament for the first time, so there’s great energy around our team…you can feel that they want more.”
Quinnipiac’s season begins on Oct. 2 on home ice against the Mercyhurst University Lakers. Conference play begins on the road in Providence when the Bobcats take on Brown on Oct. 30.
