The Quinnipiac University field hockey team defeated the Bryant University Bulldogs in a decisive 4-0 victory during the Bobcats last out of conference game.
The match opened with a chance for Bryant, in which the Bobcat’s senior goalkeeper Megan Conaboy was tasked to deflect the ball off the goal line. From there the Bobcats found their offensive rhythm and spent the majority of the next 20 minutes of play searching for a breakthrough in the offensive zone.
That first breakthrough came with 14:30 remaining in the first half when a deflection by senior midfielder Meghan McCullough from defender Megan Osanitsch’s shot made it 1-0.
The Bobcats opened the second half with a goal in free play with 34 minutes remaining when a well-placed pass from sophomore Dayna Barlow found the stick of junior Lily Shemo, who sent the ball past a fallen goalkeeper to make it 2-0.
They broke through again nine minutes later when the Bobcats created a chance on net through build up play off a corner. Four quick passes in less than four seconds allowed McCullough to set sophomore Felicia Costanza up for a chance at net to make it 3-0. The final goal came with two minutes left on the clock off another corner and deflection to make it 4-0.
Solid defense helped secure the shutout for the Bobcats throughout the second half. Overall, the Bobcats can attribute this win to offensive confidence and defensive patience as they dominated possession in the midfield for the majority of the match.
The Bobcats play again at home against Providence College (2-10-0) on Sunday, October 11 before their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match on Friday, October 16 a short ride away at neighboring Sacred Heart University (2-7-0).
