With a chance to win the ECAC regular-season title, sophomore Taylar Cianfarano scored four goals and the Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey team throttled the Union Dutchwomen 9-0 on Friday night in Hamden.
With the loss, Union remains winless on the season, and has only one more chance to grab a win when they battle Princeton Saturday afternoon.
Quinnipiac’s forecheck was dominant from start to finish, keeping the puck in the Union zone almost the entire game even through multiple line changes.
Forwards Melissa Samoskevich and Emma Woods complimented the scoring of Cianfarano on the top line. The duo won puck battles, displayed strong puck control and executed nearly perfectly in the offensive zone. The top line tallied six goals on the night.
On the other side of the ice Quinnipiac goaltender Sydney Rossman and her defense were stellar yet again, pitching a shutout for the 14th time this year and the second time in three games.
With the exception of two scoring chances off of turnovers in the first period, and a third period snap shot from just outside of the crease that rang the post, the Dutchwomen’s attack was silent for the night.
Union drops to 0-27-6 on the year and will finish in last place in the ECAC regardless of the outcome of Saturday’s tilt. With the win, Quinnipiac reaches the 25 win mark for the second straight season, giving them a record of 25-2-5. The Bobcats will finish the season at home against Rensselaer at 4 P.M. on Saturday.
