The National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL) announced today that three former members of the Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey team will be turning pro in the fall.
Cydney Roesler, Nicole Kosta and Nicole Connery will join the Connecticut Whale for the 2016-17 season.
Roesler, the 2015-16 team captain, was a stalwart on defense and assisted Quinnipiac to one of the best team defense averages in the country.
Both Kosta and Connery are members of the 100-point club, with the former having 123 as a red shirt senior, and the latter having 102 points.
“You’ve got some of the best players in the world playing in this league and I think it’ll be really fun,” said Roesler in a press release. “I’m excited, but I know it’s going to be a challenge and this is going to push me to work harder, so I’m looking forward to it.”
Connery and Kosta also made up two-thirds of the “Nicole line” that loaded contributions for the Bobcats in their NCAA tournament run this season. The last member of the line, Nicole Brown, has registered for the Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL) draft.
All three agreed to one-year deals with Roesler signing for $15,500 and Kosta and Connery one-year, $15,000 contracts.
Other Bobcats in the NWHL include the university’s all-time points leader Kelly Babstock and 100-point scorer Shiann Darkangelo.
Other Bobcats in the only paid professional women’s hockey league include defenseman Elena Orlando, former captain Morgan Fritz-Ward, and goaltending leader Chelsea Laden. The trio all suit up for the rival New York Riveters in Brooklyn.
