The Quinnipiac Bobcats have another player joining the pro ranks as graduate Travis St. Denis signed a one year contract with the New York Islanders’ American Hockey League affiliate Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Monday.
St. Denis is the fourth Quinnipiac player to sign a NHL contract this offseason as he joins former teammates Sam Anas (MIN), Devon Toews (NYI), and best friend Michael Garteig (VAN) in the jump from Quinnipiac to the pros.
“I’m very excited to start my pro career in Bridgeport,” St. Denis said via text. “The Islanders have such a great organization and I am excited to be joining it. I’m looking forward to continuing my hockey career at the pro level. It has always been a dream of mine to play pro hockey.”
Starting on the top line, St. Denis skated in 43 games for Quinnipiac, notching 22 goals along with 27 assists on the season, just one point shy of a 50 point season. During his senior season, he became just the ninth active NCAA men’s ice hockey player to record at least 60 goals and 60 assists in a career.
The 5-foot-7 inch forward used his tenacious and chippy play to constantly outwork larger defenders on the boards to spring teammates loose as well as using his speed when in the middle of the ice to create opportunities for himself.
When the games mattered the most, St. Denis shined for the Bobcats. In 16 games against ranked opponents, the British Columbia native netted a team-best 10 goals and finished second in points with 15 while also scoring a team-best three power play goals.
“This past season was a season to remember for me. I played with such a great group of guys and it was just fun to be at the rink everyday,” St. Denis said, reflecting on the season. “Although we lost the national title game, we accomplished so much by winning Quinnipiac’s first Whitelaw Cup and also another ECAC regular season title.”
St. Denis will join former linemate and 2014 graduate Connor Jones in Bridgeport.
