The Quinnipiac Bobcats look to get on the right path on Sunday as they face the Marist Red Foxes in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game. The Bobcats come into this one with a 1-5 overall record but are 4-3 all-time against the Red Foxes. This game will be a tough test for Quinnipiac, a team expected to beat Marist as they did last season at the TD Bank Sports Center. The Bobcats are 3-0 all-time against Marist at home.
In their last game, the Quinnipiac Bobcats played the Monmouth Hawks; a team that is known for dominating the MAAC Conference. The Hawks lived up to their standard, beating the Bobcats in smooth fashion by the score of 91-72. The bright side of the game for the Bobcats was the high scoring play of their two freshman guards; Mikey Dixon had 18 points and Peter Kiss registered 15. They both came off the bench and showed that they could certainly keep up with the top team in their conference.
For Marist, they have won three straight games coming into Sunday’s game. The Red Foxes opened up MAAC Conference play on Friday, defeating Niagara 72-66. Kentrall Brooks led the way, scoring a career-high 17 points and 10 rebounds. Marist has been a high scoring team in their last six games, scoring 70 points in each of them.
This will be a tough contest for both teams, as Quinnipiac seems to be slightly favored in this one. Although history tends to repeat itself, anything can happen as the Marist Red Hawks look to end their three game losing streak at the TD Bank Sports Center.
Players to watch:
Bobcats: Peter Kiss. An easy choice for player to watch for the matchup against Marist. Kiss, the most recent MAAC Rookie of the Week, was a dominating presence in the AdvoCare Invitational Tournament. He averaged 16 points per game in the three games that were played. As mentioned before, Kiss had 15 points off the bench against Monmouth in Quinnipiac’s most recent game, so without a doubt he can make an immediate impact on Sunday.
Red Foxes: Kentrall Brooks. After playing dominantly against Niagara on Friday, Brooks could be the definitive reason Marist runs away with this game. In the game Brooks shot almost perfect from the field, shooting 60 percent in the win. He also shot a perfect 5-5 from the line and tallied 10 rebounds to complete the double-double. Any time Brooks’ stats show up like that on the box score, he is definitely one to look out for.
Keys to the game:
Bobcats: Smart shots. In Quinnipiac’s loss to Monmouth they shot a combined 35.9 percent and out of the twelve players who got minutes in the game, only two of them shot over 50 percent. When at team close to below 50 percent collectively as a unit, it is very hard to expect them to win. They will need their starters to keep their composure if they want a chance at winning the game. Chaise Daniels, who took the most shots in the game on Friday, will be expected to play at a much higher level come Sunday.
Red Foxes: Keeping the train rolling. Marist has been playing well as of late and is definitely something to take note of. They come into Hamden, CT looking for their fourth straight win this Sunday. In their last game on Friday against Niagara they came out hot shooting 10-19 from the field as a team. As much as they can go on runs on the offensive side of the floor, their defense has been stellar as well. On this three game win streak, Marist has had one stretch of holding opponents without a field goal for at least six minutes in each of the games.
