The Quinnipiac women’s basketball team opens up home Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play against Siena this Saturday. Quinnipiac stands atop of the conference in overall record at 5-1 (1-0 MAAC), while Siena falls behind them at 2-3 (1-0 MAAC).
History between teams:
Quinnipiac is 7-0 against Siena all-time. In the last meeting between the two, Quinnipiac defeated Siena 69-59. Also, Quinnipiac’s largest win in Division I history comes against Siena with a 94-52 victory. Its dominating win was Siena’s worst loss in program history as well.
Season recap:
After a tough loss to Temple, Quinnipiac destroyed MAAC rival Saint Peters 84-51. Jen Fay, Adily Martucci and Paula Strautmane all racked 10 points. Freshmen Vanessa Udoji and Paige Walford had a career day with a combined 26 points between them.
Siena coasted against Fairfield with a 67-52 win. Forward Meghan Donohue finished with a career high in points with 18. Jackie Benitez had herself a career day as well with a high of six assists. Siena committed its fewest turnovers in program history with nine.
Key matchup:
Sophomore Aryn McClure and Siena senior Meghan Donohue is the matchup to watch for Saturday. Both players have a down low presence that is impossible to stop. McClure leads the Bobcats in rebounds, averaging nearly seven per game. Donahue is second behind Benitz, averaging four per game. Rebounding has not been the strongest part of Quinnipiac’s game as its opponents out rebound them 40-39. This battle for boards will be a sight to see.
Freshmen phenoms:
Quinnipiac freshmen made an impact last time out against Saint Peters. Vanessa Udoji led the team with 16 points in her debut in the MAAC while Paige Walford tallied 10 points herself. Quinnipiac will look towards these freshmen to continue their success.
Siena freshman Anna Lundquist made four three point shots coming off the bench in the Saints win against Fairfield. The freshman will look to continue the success against the high powered Quinnipiac defense.
