Carly Fabbri has had a late season resurgence over the past four games and it has come at the most pivotal time of year for the Quinnipiac Bobcats: March. The junior captain only managed one double-digit game in her first 28 games of the season; but as the calendars neared March, she heated up.
Fabbri has now scored double-digit points in four straight games, including setting two season highs against Canisius and Iona; she scored 13 against Canisius and 14 against Iona.
It was a surprise to see Fabbri struggle with her shot because she puts a lot of time into it. Fabbri is usually the first player on the court whether it is home or away, she likes to get up shots.
When Quinnipiac traveled down to Iona in January, the only people on the court were Carly and her brother who was rebounding for her.
“I think that’s how I prepare, it is my routine. It makes me a little more calm going into the game,” Fabbri said about being the first player out to shoot.
After practice on Saturday night, Edel Thornton was rebounding for Carly Fabbri while she was shooting free throws.
Carly Fabbri knows that her teammates are counting on her to take and make the big shots during the game. In the tough quarterfinal matchup against Canisius, she would take and make what would prove to be the game winning three with 1:26 left in the game.
“Whether its going to be me or one my teammates, I know that we are all confident in knocking down the open shot,” Fabbri said.
Fabbri has really been in attack mode over the past four games and her scoring reflects that.
“I’m confident in my shot. I like coming off the bench, it’s like a little spark for the team. I’ve just been in attack mode. I’ve been fortunate enough to get open and knock down some shots,” Fabbri said.
Although Fabbri struggled with her jump shot, no one praised her for how she handles the basketball. In the final moments of a basketball game you need to have confidence in your players bringing the ball up the court and head coach Tricia Fabbri has that in her daughter Carly.
Carly Fabbri has started to put her mark on the past couple of games with no only her ball handling ability but also her scoring output.
She has used her calm demeanor to push herself into the limelight at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament. She is now one of the many options that Quinnipiac has when they need a big basket down the final stretch of a close game. She had the game winner against Canisius on Friday afternoon. Fabbri also hit the go ahead three pointer with 7:40 left in the fourth quarter;sShe gave the Bobcats a three-point lead that they would not relinquish.
Carly Fabbri will look to lead her team win the MAAC championship game on Monday night, when the top seeded Quinnipiac Bobcats play the second seeded Rider Broncs at 5 p.m. at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York.
