The Quinnipiac Bobcats are set to take on the Saint. Peter’s Peacocks in a double-header this Sunday April 2 at 12:00 p.m. The Bobcats (11-14) enter the weekend on a four-game winning streak, while the Peacocks (1-11) enter the weekend on a three-game losing streak.
The Bobcats won both their games against Wagner college on the road and swept Hartford in their home-opener.
In their last two double-headers, Casey Herzog would be the starting pitcher for the first game and Abbey Long would start the second. This pitching order should stay the same for the upcoming double-header.
In Herzog’s previous two starts, she has pitched two complete games giving up a combined six hits, zero runs, three walks and six strikeouts.
Long doesn’t have the same stats Herzog does, however she has proven to be a reliable number two starter. She’s given up a combined nine hits, five runs, a walk and six strikeouts.
The Peacocks have three starting pitchers in Sydney Ramsey, Crystal Carlucci and Tiffani Lambert.
Sydney Ramsey is the only pitcher for the Peacocks that has registered a win so far this season. That one win came against Seton Hall, in which she surrendered three hits, one run, walked five and struck out seven.
Lambert was the last one to pitch for the Peacock trio, therefore Ramsey and Carlucci will most likely take the mound on Sunday.
On the offensive side, the Bobcats are averaging 3.76 runs per game. Rebecca Drake and Miranda Magana are the only two players with an above .300 batting average, however they’re both batting well above that. Drake currently has a .392 average, while Magana has a .369.
The Peacocks are averaging 4.08 runs per game. Alina Guevara and Nicole Feoli are the only two players batting above .300, Guevara is batting .378 while Feoli’s batting .333. Despite not appearing in every game, Candice Koch and Alyssa Ruiz are batting above .400. Koch has a .417 batting average and Ruiz is batting .500.
If the Bobcats look to keep their winning streak alive, their offense has to show up. The Bobcats have six players batting below .200 out of 14 players who have batted this season. This puts more pressure on the better hitters like Drake and Magana. Even though the Peacocks only have one win this season, they are still able to produce a runs. This is a team that’s only been shutout once, and in their only win the Peacocks produced 10 runs.
If the Peacocks want to get out of their three-game slump, their pitching has to step up. The Peacocks have the ability to provide run support, but with a team earned run average of 7.73, that’s a lot of run support. Herzog and Long only have a combined 3.71 earned run average for the Bobcats. If the Peacocks don’t want to give up too many runs, they also have to limit Drake and Magana to just a few hits over the course of the double-header without giving up a lot of walks.
