For the first time in program history, the Quinnipiac Bobcats (3-1-0) will be hosting a team from the Atlantic Coast Division (ACC), the Miami Hurricanes (3-2-0). Quinnipiac hasn’t hosted a high-major conference program since 2012, when they defeated Providence College (BIG EAST) 1-0. The Bobcats will try to extend their winning streak to three games, while the Hurricanes attempt to break their two-game losing streak.
So far, the Bobcats haven’t lost a game on their new field. Kelsey Goldring scored in overtime by fooling Bryant goalkeeper Rachel Brightman to give the Bobcats a 2-1 victory over the Bulldogs on August 30th. Goldring, who has six points (two goals, two assists) is tied for the team lead in points, along with Nadya Gill, Al Pelletier, and Madison Borowiec.
The Hurricanes will end their five-game road trip with the Bobcats. Miami is currently 2-2 on their road trip, with wins against Florida International and Miami Ohio, and shut-out losses to Cincinnati and Yale. The Hurricanes are 3-0 on the year whenever forward Ronnie Johnson scores. Johnson is leading the team with nine points (four goals, one assist). The rest of the soccer team has a combined six goals this season.
The Hurricanes are ranked seventh out of fourteen teams in the ACC. Wake Forest and Clemson are tied for first place with four wins each. The Bobcats have not played any games against MAAC teams yet, so they are not ranked in the conference.
Despite four Bobcats being tied for the team lead in points (Goldring, Gill, Pelletier, Borowiec), Al Pelletier is the player to look out for. She’s scored two goals in the last two games. Ronnie Johnson and Kristina Fisher will be the players to look out for on the Hurricanes’ side. Johnson is the offensive leader, while Fisher leads the team in assists with five.
Miami goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce has started and finished every game between the pipes this year. Tullis-Joyce has a 0.60 goals against average and a save percentage of .864. Quinnipiac goalkeeper Olivia Myszewski has started every game this season. Myszewski has a 1.64 goals against average and a save percentage of .684. Devan Malcolm played but didn’t start when the Bobcats fell to Drexel 3-0. Malcolm has a 2.00 goals against average and a .750 save percentage.
