The Quinnipiac volleyball team (4-17 overall, 3-10 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) will welcome Saint Peter’s (6-19 overall, 3-8 MAAC) to Hamden on Saturday for a MAAC matchup. The Peacocks are hoping to bounce back after a tough 3-0 loss against Iona this past Wednesday, while the Bobcats are coming off a big win against the Siena Saints.
Players to Watch
Quinnipiac – Kat Miller
It’s no surprise that the senior right side hitter is the player to watch in this contest. Miller has tallied 213 kills and 212 digs this season, placing her in second on the Quinnipiac leaderboard. She leads all Bobcats in service aces with 38, which is also good for first in the MAAC. In the most recent matchup against the Saints, she led the team with 18 kills, good for her season-best. If Miller stays hot, Saint Peter’s will have a lot of work to do to keep up.
Saint Peter’s – Alanis Alvarado
The outside hitter is going to be a force to be reckoned with during this match. Alvarado is only a freshman but has made a name for herself on this team, leading the team in kills (238) and sitting second in digs (248). She also earned MAAC Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors back in August. Don’t be surprised if she fills up the scoresheet, both offensively and defensively.
Keys to the Game
Quinnipiac – Build off previous win
Quinnipiac snapped a five-game losing streak after defeating Siena, so that energy is going to be crucial in this match against the Saint Peter’s. The Bobcats are facing a team with the same conference record, so this contest could go either way. If Kat Miller and Morgan Sherwin continue to dominate offensively and the back row stands firm, this will be a thrilling showdown.
Saint Peter’s – Adjust to Quinnipiac’s playing style
In their last meeting, Quinnipiac defeated Saint Peter’s in an exciting five-set match. The Peacocks will see familiar faces on the other side of the net, which gives them an opportunity to capitalize on the Bobcats’ weaknesses. Alanis Alvarado and Angeleyshka Curbelo have over 200 kills for Saint Peter’s, which could cause panic on Quinnipiac’s side if they get a rally going.
