How Sweep It Is: Three takeaways from Quinnipiac’s second consecutive win over Holy Cross
December 23, 2020
The No. 16 Quinnipiac Bobcats completed their mid-week sweep of the Holy Cross Crusaders, defeating them 3-0 on Wednesday night. The Bobcats were backed by goals from Ethan De Jong, Logan Britt, and Desi Burgart.
Here are three takeaways from Quinnipiac’s victory.
Keith Petruzzelli off to a hot start
Quinnipiac goalie Keith Petruzzelli had a stellar game in net for the Bobcats, stopping all 26 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season.
Petruzzelli had a couple of dazzling saves in the third period, turning away two potential Holy Cross goals.
Tonight’s game continued a fantastic start to Petruzzelli’s season, where he has allowed two goals or fewer in five or six games. Petruzzelli is now tied with Jamie Holden for fifth in program history with seven career shutouts.
De Jong & Burgart are scoring machines
Ethan De Jong netted his third power-play goal of the season, his third straight game scoring on the man advantage, on a redirection from Peter DiLiberatore in the first period.
De Jong has now scored 20 goals in his Quinnipiac career, five of which have come on the power play.
Burgart, a sophomore, scored his fourth goal of the season, his second in two games. Burgart’s fourth goal marks a career-high after only scoring three the entirety of his freshman season.
Peter Diliberatore and Odeen Tufto are key playmakers
Peter DiLiberatore notched his second straight two-assist game on Wednesday, the seventh such game of his career. He now has nine multi-point games, including 35 total assists, in his career.
Odeen Tufto extended his point streak to three games and now has points in five of Quinnipiac’s six games this season, leading the Bobcats with seven assists and nine rebounds.
Tufto’s assist on the Bobcats’ opening goal of the night was the 97th of his career, tying Rick Ciardiello for eighth in program history.
Quinnipiac will look to continue its winning streak Saturday as they host AIC in the first game of a home & home weekend series.
