Bobcats shut out Canisius College 2-0, their undefeated streak up to eight games
October 29, 2022
The Quinnipiac Bobcats men’s soccer team added another success to its record with a 2-0 win against the Canisius College Golden Griffins.
This game was especially special on Saturday afternoon because it was Senior Day, a day when the graduating class is celebrated by their peers and fans. Each senior was announced and showered with love and applause from family, friends and fans. It was a day that will be remembered by all involved in the program.
“This group, this team, has done things that we have never done before as a program,” said head coach Eric Da Costa. “In the end, we will look back on it and be really proud of that. That’s what makes them special.”
Going into the game, the Bobcats were coming off of a major winning streak, coming off of a seven-game undefeated streak. In addition, Quinnipiac sits at No. 3 in the MAAC.
With eyes on the championship, the stakes for this game were higher than ever.
From the jump, the Bobcats were very composed and were making plays right away. Within the first few minutes, the team was playing very offensively. At 10:33 in the first half, the Bobcats scored their first goal by senior forward Brage Aasen, assisted by David Bercedo. The Bobcats ended the half with a 1-0 lead against Canisius College.
As the second half got started, it was clear that Canisius was feeling discouraged. The Golden Griffins could not string together any major plays. They played very defensively from the start and did not change up their strategy during the second half.
Aasen scored another goal during the second half at 61:24, which was also assisted by Bercedo. It was clear after that that the game was won. Morality on Canisius’ part was lost after the second goal. The Bobcats showed determination and drive from beginning to end, resulting in their major win.
The Quinnipiac Bobcats will play again on Nov. 2 against Niagara University. This will be the last game of the regular season and then it is off to the MAAC tournament.
