Every year the Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey team makes sure the Providence Friars are on their schedule. Though the Bobcats haven’t found much success versus the Friars in history, they look forward to Providence every year, and there’s definitely reason to do so.
In the last eight meetings between the Bobcats and the Friars, there have been two overtime games and all of the matchups have been one-goal games. The series all-time is 10-3-2 in favor of Providence.
The Bobcats have not found a win against the Friars at home since Oct. 7, 2017, where they beat the Friars 1-0. On the other hand, the Friars haven’t won in Providence since that same weekend in 2017 where they lost in a 3-1 matchup.
Graduate goaltender Logan Angers is very experienced vs. Providence as she has played in three of the last four matchups. On the other end of the pond, the Friars look to have a new face in the pipes for the weekend matchup.
With the graduation of Sandra Abstreiter, the torch is now passed down to either senior Mireille Kingsley or junior Hope Wallinski. Both are very proven goaltenders and are trusted by head coach Matt Kelly which makes it a hard decision for the six-year head coach.
Last season, the Bobcats won the first game in Providence by a score of 3-2 over the Friars. The Friar goals were scored by Brooke Becker and Lindsay Bochna, while Quinnipiac responded with goals from Jess Schyver, Sadie Peart, and Olivia Mobley to win the game. The next day and the last time these two teams met, the Friars decided to flip the script and take the game in Hamden by the same score, 3-2. Quinnipiac led off with a 2-0 lead which was diminished in the second period, eventually resulting in a lone third-period goal courtesy of Friars forward Noemi Neubauerova.
The Friars are coming in with one of their weakest records vs. Quinnipiac with a 0-2 record after getting swept by up-and-coming St. Lawrence University of the ECAC. Their leading point scorer is junior forward Ashley Clark who had two points in the team’s first game of the season.
The Bobcats are coming into another series against Providence undefeated at 4-0 after sweeping Maine and the University of New Hampshire the past two weekends. Their leading point scorer is Sadie Peart who has recorded six points in the first four games of the year.
Peart comes into this game on a four-game point streak and she is one point shy of 100 points in her collegiate career. Peart is one of the co-captains of the Bobcats this season and has recorded 48 goals throughout her five seasons for Quinnipiac.
