The Quinnipiac University Bobcats are getting ready for another weekend of conference play on their home court in Hamden, Connecticut as they welcome the Saint Peter’s University Peacocks on Saturday afternoon and the Rider University Broncos on Sunday afternoon.
Quinnipiac has been on a hot streak in the MAAC conference only losing one out of their eight games. The only loss in their last eight games came at the hands of Fairfield University when they lost 3-1. Quinnipiac has also yet to lose on their home court this season going 3-0.
Graduate student Aryannah Diaz is back in her normal position of outside hitter/opposite after playing in the libero spot for the past several weeks due to injury. Against the Fairfield Stags, she recorded 16 kills and in the Bobcats’ previous game against Manhattan University, Diaz recorded 14 kills.
Sophomore Damla Gunes is also a key player to this Bobcat team as their setter. Gunes has had over 600 assists on the 2023 season alone and has consistently averaged over 40 assists in her last six games.
Saint Peters University:
The Peacocks will travel to Hamden to face the Bobcats on Burt Kahn Court on Saturday at 1 p.m. for their first meeting of the season.
Saint Peter’s has had a rough start to their 2023 season, having a record of 0-20 on their season so far. However, the Peacocks should not be underestimated. They have put up a fight in their matches, most recently falling to Marist University in five sets Wednesday night.
Sophomore Mackenzie Tucker recorded her second-career double-double in Saint Peters’ matchup against Marist, having 16 kills and 16 digs. Sophomore Elena Bilhartz was also named September’s ‘Peacock of the Month’ alongside men’s soccer player Tim Strele. As of the time of being given this honor, Bilhartz recorded 34 blocks and 56 kills on the season.
In their history with the Bobcats, the Peacocks have only won three games and are currently on a 12-game losing streak. The last time the Peacocks won was on their home court in 2015.
Rider University:
The Broncos will travel to Hamden to face Quinnipiac on Burt Kahn Court Sunday at 1 p.m. also for their first meeting of the season.
Rider is currently 5-11 on the season and 4-4 in conference play, most recently falling to Canisius University in five sets on their home court.
Key players to watch on the Broncos are first-year Molly Rhode and sophomore Keegan O’Connor. Rhode was previously named Rookie of the Week for the last week of September. She currently has 94 kills and 47 blocks on the season, which makes her a large threat to her opponents. O’Connor had a season-high 22 digs in her previous match against Canisius, adding to her total of 188 digs on the season.
In their history with the Bobcats, the Broncos and Bobcats have split their meetings, having 13 wins and 13 losses each; however, Quinnipiac is currently on a three-game win streak and has home-court advantage this weekend.
Both games have a start time of 1 p.m. and will be streamed on gobobcats.com. Live tweeting on ‘X’ will also be available via @QBSN.
