Jackie Grisdale, Quinnipiac’s star shooting guard and team captain, will miss the remainder of the season with a “lower-body injury” according to an official team statement released on social media on Dec. 19.
Grisdale suffered the injury leading up to Quinnipiac’s Dec. 18 game at Rider. Grisdale did not dress for that game.
“I’m unbelievably disappointed to miss out on the rest of this year with such a talented group,” Grisdale wrote on her Instagram story. “But I am looking forward to coming back even stronger.”
Through eight games, the junior team captain was the Bobcats’ top scoring option, leading the team with 14.1 points per game on 46% shooting from the field.
Grisdale was also having a career year from beyond the arc, shooting 45.9% from three.
Losing her veteran presence on the court is by far the biggest blow to Quinnipiac. First-year guards Karson Martin, Paige Girardi and Maria Kealy will all see increased minutes in Grisdale’s absence. All three started together for the first time against Rider – a game in which Martin scored 20 points.
The specific injury Grisdale suffered was not made public. The team stated that she aims to return to the court next season.
