On Saturday afternoon, the Quinnipiac Bobcats defeated the Harvard Crimson by a score of 9-0 in the first round of the ECAC playoffs.
The Bobcats got the scoring started 6:46 into the game when a broken passing play led to a loose puck landing on the stick of Veronica Bac who made no mistake putting the puck top shelf.
Less than three minutes later Sophie Urban joined Bac on the scoresheet as she was the first one to a rebound and buried the shot making it 2-0 in the first.
The Crimson did not have many scoring chances in the opening frame as they were outshot 14-4. The final minute of the period brought their best chance as they had a four-on-one breakout but it was ultimately stopped by Logan Angers who allowed no rebound.
“I’m as ready as I can be,” Angers said. “Knowing that it might not get to me even but just preparing myself for that moment that might happen.”
The second period was dominated by Quinnipiac as they were able to put up three goals in the frame.
Alexa Hoskin got things going when she took a pass while entering the offensive zone and was able to wire it into the top corner for the 3-0 lead.
“I definitely feel like I’m getting back to where I was at the start,” Hoskin said. “I kind of fell off a little bit, but I feel like I’m back to my normal self just in time for playoffs, which is nice.”
Similarly to the goals in the first, the fourth goal came just 2:12 after the third when a shot from the point got blocked but trickled its way to Madison Chantler who put it five-hole for the 4-0 lead.
The fifth goal was another gritty goal from the Bobcats as after a save from Emily Davidson, Nina Steigauf was there to knock in the rebound, giving the Bobcats a 5-0 lead heading into the final period.
The first scoring chance of the third came from Harvard as they came in on a 2-0 break but was once again turned aside by Angers.
The rest of the period was all Bobcats as they put up four in the frame which included Hoskin and Chantler getting their second goals of the game.
The highlight of the period however came from Kahlen Lamarche while on the powerplay as she took a pass from Kate Reilly and put it top shelf near side.
The Bobcats, who put up nine goals in this one, had seven different goalscorers light the lamp and 12 players that recorded at least one point.
“It’s just being relentless in our mentality and playing a team game,” head coach Cass Turner said. “When you play that way, it can be anybody that puts the puck in the net, and I think it was great to see that.”
The Bobcats will look to keep their season going when they travel to Ithaca next week to take on the Cornell Big Red in the ECAC quarterfinals.
